From charming villa on the lake to country house hotel
The building that today houses Martin’s Manoir was built in the beginning of the 20th century. Originally, this building was a magnificent Victorian private home called “Le Versant”.
In 1932, the country house received a first rejuvenation cure. The new owner, Notaris Vinel, renovated the villa entirely and built a new wing on the western façade, where the new entrance is now. The turrets, however, were taken down.
A few years later, World War II broke out. “Le Versant” was taken over by the Germans to serve as a convalescence home for officers of the air force. After the liberation, the villa was returned to its rightful owner.
It was not until 1982 that “Le Versant” became a country house hotel. The villa was purchased by the Société Foncière de Genval and renamed Manoir du Lac (Country house at the Lake). It was then used for seminars and receptions.
In 1990, the Martin’s Hotels Group furnished the country house as a “Country House Hotel” with 12 guest rooms. In 2006, the hotel was totally renovated, and two years later Manoir du Lac reopened its doors as Martin’s Manoir.
A charming hotel in a dream location
Today, Genval Lake is a very popular spot for a special walking excursion. The lake is ringed by dozens of pearls from the Belle Époque. Opulent homes adorn the banks of the water, among them “la Bastide”, the house where Victor Horta lived.
Martin’s Manoir is ideally situated in the heart of Walloon-Brabant. The country house hotel is the perfect home base from which to discover the region, which is saturated with history. Travel back in time in the Folon Foundation, in the Villers-la-Ville Abbey or on the Waterloo battlefield.
Walloon-Brabant also has so much to offer nature and sports enthusiasts. Take a breath of fresh air in Solvay Park, the Sonian Forest (or Forêt de Soignes) – Brussels’ green lung – or the Bois des Rêves domain. The hilly landscape is a magnificent string of woods and valleys, picturesque villages and beautiful panoramas – a stunning piece of paradise, where time has stood still.
Martin’s Manoir distinguishes itself in the hotel world through its personal approach – which is characteristic of Martin’s Hotels – but also through its unique location in natural greenery with a view on Genval Lake.Local sights of special interest around Martin's Manoir
